Cotswold Staycation: The Old Swan & Minster Mill
Last week I had the pleasure of staying at one of Brownsword Hotels' gorgeous Cotswold hotels; The Old Swan and Minster Mill. Not far from Oxford, but once you arrive in the quaint village of Minster Lovell you feel miles perfectly secluded. I went on this little staycation with my boyfriend for a night away, perfect!
We decided to make the most of my boyfriends local city of Oxford before heading off to the hotel in the afternoon. If you haven’t already seen my vlog, check that out HERE to see more of what we did in Oxford and more on this cute hotel!
We headed round all the typical places in Oxford, down the cute streets, past the endless bicycles and to the renowned buildings. The ratcliffe camera and Bodelian library being a must – see if you come to Oxford. We also browsed the covered market, and checked out a bag I’ve had my eye on for a while, and maybe indulged in a couple of cookies from our favourite cookie shop.
After walking around this gorgeous city, we needed a little pick me up and headed to this little café called The Missing Bean. I bought my boyfriend a Barista course as a Christmas present from here and I have to say it was a fab gift and a really great experience. So if any of you are into coffee… you’ve got to give it a try! Check out the Missing Bean HERE
How fantastic are the buildings in Oxford?

Mid afternoon we headed over to The Old Swan and Minster Mill– the hotel we were staying at. It takes around half an hour from Oxford to get there, so a perfect little escape. In typical Cotswold style, the hotel is spread out with plenty of space to roam around the lovely countryside and the buildings made of the classic Cotswold stone. What I loved about the hotel was the lovely gardens that seemed to stretch on forever. Everywhere you looked where perfectly tailored flower beds and cute little flower boxes.
We were given a map at reception of the hotel and pointed in the direction of our room. But on our way to our room, we couldn’t help but stop at one of the little grass areas. A game of giant chess and croquet greeted us. It would be rude not to wouldn’t it? As you walk round there’s the perfect sound of trees rustling and the sound of running water, from the river that runs through the hotel grounds.
So after we felt we’d sufficiently played about with what was on offer we went to check out our room. The room was so light and airy with a view of the grass and the river where we had just been – perfection! In keeping with what I do everyday, I got straight into my bath robe and relaxed before I headed down to the spa.
I think for me, my favourite part of the stay, was the spa. I was so so pleasantly surprised – it was a warm haven of gorgeousness. The girls there were amazing and can I just talk about the shower they had there!! There is this rainforest shower where you can change the settings to things like ‘thunder storm’ and flashes of light and noises of the rainforest are heard as you shower beneath the stream of warm water. So cool right!? Anyway back to the reason I was there. As a huge massage lover, I was excited to try out my first ever hot stone massage. Actually that’s a slight lie… I thought that I wouldn’t enjoy it as much as something more traditional or a deep tissue massage. But how wrong I was! It was honestly one of the best BEST massages I’ve ever had. You cant actually even tell its stones, you can’t tell the moment my masseuse started using the hot stones. Except for the fact that the movements are heavenly and warm. An hour later, I was in dream land and exceptionally relaxed. I decided to head back to the room, grab Alex and head to the pool area for half an hour before we got ready for dinner.
Dinner was served in The Old Swan which is literally across a tiny little road from the main hotel and was a very traditional pub setting. The food, however, was really very impressive. I had a delicious fish filet on an apple slaw with some yummy vegetables and for dessert a glorious white chocolate and raspberry bread and butter pudding. I know. Sounds delicious. I have to say we were well and truly looked after in terms of delicious food!!
A lovely staycation together at such a cute hotel. Something we are now going to make an effort to keep up. Im determined to have another hot stone massage very soon too!
