Achieving Balance, Discovering my Dosha. Samaya Review.

So I was approached by Samaya the skincare brand to try out their products, I often get approached to try out new brands and they send over whatever they think you might like. Which is obviously really fun because it means I get to try out lots of new things, but a lot of the time brands don’t take into consideration your skin type and sometimes even your skin tone when sending makeup products. So as you can imagine I have a lot of products that I can’t use, that don’t suit me or just simply hurt my skin.

So when I looked through exactly what Samaya was all about totally up for trying their products. And even more fun that you start with a survey/quiz/test whatever you want to call it, that determines your “dosha” and finds the perfect skincare products to suit YOU (I’ll explain more on that later).

Samaya is a natural skincare brand based on Ayurvedic principles which in short believes that to achieve and maintain balance, we should pay attention to our lifestyle as a whole. To do this, first we must establish our dosha type.

But what even is a Dosha?

Dosha is the name given to the energies that govern every individual. There are 3 main types: Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Each type has a set of physical and emotional traits.

When our dosha is balanced, our mind, body and soul are in perfect harmony, which is revealed through healthy, radiant skin. And when its not, we are imbalanced, we notice the ill-effects, including on our skin.

So the first thing I did was fill out the online test, so easy and it revealed my Dosha type. Which was….duh duh duuuuh – Vata.

Well to be precise I was 60% Vata, 30% Pitta and 10% Kapha.

So when I got sent my Vata product I got a little leaflet that told me what exactly that meant about me and I was so surprised that it actually rang rather true!!! So this is what it said:

Energetic and creative in balance, but worried, tired and indecisive when out of balance. Often of slender build and suffers from cold hands and feet. Tends to have delicate dry skin and hair, which may need extra moisturising and nourishment to keep it glowing and healthy.

The Product:

So I tried out the cleanser, the Vata hydrating cleanser, to obviously suit my skin type.

It has powerful Ayurvedic botanicals such as Rose, Turmeric, Tulsi, Gotu Kola and Ashwagandha - all of which have their roles in creating the ultimate balance and leaving your skin smoother and more radiant.

Some of the ingredients:

Gotu Kola Oil

Anti-inflammatory and anti-ageing herb; helps fight chronic skin conditions by repairing damage done to the skin; stimulates collagen production in the skin.

Rose Flower Extract

Anti-ageing ingredient; promotes healing; helps skin look rejuvenated; transformative aroma boosts energy and mood.

Manuka Honey Extract

Natural antioxidant and anti-bacterial; helps keep skin supple and toned; contains Lignin which is a natural organic substance that binds cells together

My thoughts:

This is such a luxurious brand, starting with even the packaging. The cleanser comes in this glass beautiful bottle. The simplicity of it reflects the natural roots, but very much in keeping with the idea that they are still a ‘luxury skincare’ brand.

The product smells amazing, very spa- like, and I felt that I could smell the rose a lot with this cleanser. Im not usually a rose scented kinda girl but because its not too sweet, I really enjoyed it. The cleanser is rather thick and creamy and does a great job of cleansing the skin and leaving you feel super soft and hydrated afterwards. My only real negative for this would be that because it is such a creamy and luxury type product I don’t think I would use this cleanser to remove my makeup, only to cleanse after it is removed. So this wouldn’t be my everday cleanser but I have to say I am really very impressed with the product and I’d love to try another.

I love the idea of Samaya products and hope you guys liked hearing more about this interesting brand. Check them out here and find out what your Dosha type is too! Check below for the products featured in this post.
